The intelligence and wit of many the "I Spy" scripts stands as a monument to the best of action series drama.

The greatest number of scripts were produced by the team of DAVID FRIEDKIN and MORT FINE. They wrote A CUP OF KINDNESS, THREE HOURS ON A SUNDAY NIGHT, TIGERS OF HEAVEN, AFFAIR IN T'SIEN CHA (the pilot), BET ME A DOLLAR, RETURN TO GLORY, LORI, SOPHIA, CHILD OUT OF TIME, THE  TROUBLE WITH TEMPLE, MAINLY ON THE PLAINS, LAYA, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYBODY, and THE SPY BUSINESS (14 in all) and co-wrote CRUSADE TO LIMBO with JACK TURLEY, ROME TAKE AWAY THREE with TIM BALLINGER and PINWHEEL with JOHN SHANNON.

 ROBERT CULP was responsible for the series premier SO LONG PATRICK HENRY, as well as THE LOSER, THE TIGER, COURT OF THE LION (which he also directed), THE WAR LORD (for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award), MAGIC MIRROR (working title "The Enchanted Cottage") and what should have been the series finale HOME TO JUDGEMENT. In fact, he had a great influence on all the scripts, not only through the famous adlibbing. In his own words "I could feel it instinctively. The only person who was going to be able to zero in on the dialogue for Bill and me was going to be me."
MICHAEL ZAGOR contributed six scripts:A DAY CALLED 4 JAGUAR, TRIAL BY TREEHOUSE, TONIA, A ROOM WITH A RACK, LET'S KILL KARLOVASSI and ANYPLACE I HANG MYSELF IS HOME. Like the Robert Culp scripts, MICHAEL ZAGOR's writing was among the darkest and psychologically complex of the series. He wrote the screenplay for the 1986 thriller OF PURE BLOOD.
STEPHAN KANDEL (see photo below with Chester Krumholz) produced five "I SPY" scripts, IT'S ALL DONE WITH MIRRORS, SO COLDLY SWEET, FATHER ABRAHAM, BRIDGE OF SPIES and NIGHT TRAIN TO MADRID plus TAG YOU'RE IT with M. J. WAGGONNER and THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL with ROBERT BLOCH. The pair were major contributors to the STAR TREK series. Kandel also wrote for MacGYVER, SEA HUNT, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and CANNON.
BARRY ORRINGER was the writer of A GIFT FROM ALEXANDER, ONE OF OUR BOMBS IS MISSING, BLACKOUT and THE MEDARRA BLOCK. He also wrote for THE FUGITIVE.
JERRY LUDWIG authored COPS & ROBBERS, NOW YOU SEE HER, NOW YOU DON'T, A FEW MILES AWAY FROM NOWHERE and THE NAME OF THE GAME. He wrote the screenplay for DASH AND LILY as well as scripts for HAWAII FIVE O, MURDER SHE WROTE and MAC GYVER among others. You'll find an interesting interview with him if you click the link . 
Barbara & Milton Merlin 
MARION HARGROBE (1919 - 2003) authored VENDETTA and OEDIPUS AT COLONUS on his own, and co-authored SPARROWHAWK with WALTER BLACK and GET THEE TO A NUNNERY with veteran producers BARBARA & MILTON MERLIN (1905-1996). Hargrove wrote the bestseller SEE HERE PRIVATE HARGROVE and the screenplay for THE MUSIC MAN, BOYS' NIGHT OUT, CASH McCALL and JOE BUTTERFLY, as well as scripts for MAVERICK, THE ROGUES and THE WALTONS.

ROBERT LEWIN wrote the haunting and romantic TATIA in addition to THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD and SHANA. Producer, writer and director, he has also contributed to MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, 12 O'CLOCK HIGH, HAWAII FIVE O, RAWHIDE, CANNON and THE PAPER CHASE.
The partnership of ROBERT C. DENNIS (1915-1983)and EARL BARRETT produced ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE, THE CONQUEST OF MAUDE MURDOCH and CARMELITA IS ONE OF US. They were also contributors to BATMAN, THE WILD WILD WEST, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, KOJAK, THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and GET SMART. Robert C. Dennis also wrote a number of scripts for OUTER LIMITS.
 ERNEST FRANKEL did the scripts for PHILOTIMO, APOLLO and TURNABOUT FOR TRAITORS. Novelist, screenwriter and producer, Ernest Frankel was a regular contributor to the PERRY MASON series and wrote the novels BAND OF BROTHERS and TONGUE OF FIRE. His TV credits also include THE MOD SQUAD, MANNIX, MOVIN' ON and numerous MOVIES OF THE WEEK, including EBONY, IVORY AND JADE, CONCRETE COWBOYS and MURDER IN MUSIC CITY.
GILBERT RALSTON (born 1928)wrote the early episodes DRAGONS TEETH and TIME OF THE KNIFE. He also contributed to the legendary NAKED CITY, 12 O'CLOCK HIGH, THE BIG VALLEY, LAREDO, and STAR TREK.
ARTHUR DALES penned DANNY WAS A MILLION LAUGHS and SUITABLE FOR FRAMING. He was one of the victims of the infamous Hollywood Blacklist, and perhaps all of his credits have not yet been acknowledged. Among the shows for which he is credited is MANNIX
ERIC BERKOBICI was the author of TURKISH DELIGHT and ONE THOUSAND FINE. He also wrote the screenplay for NOBEL HOUSE and SHOGUN (both of which he produced) , co-wrote the screenplay for HELL IN THE PACIFIC and contributed to HAWAII FIVE O and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
 RICK MITTLEMAN was responsible for the scripts of WILL THE REAL GOOD GUYS PLEASE STAND UP and CASANOVA FROM CANARSIE. A three-time Emmy Award nominee, he's also written for THE ODD COUPLE, MacGYVER, SIMON & SIMON, BEWITCHED, THE WIZARD, the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW, MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, M*A*S*H and REMINGTON STEELE.
 JACKSON GILLIS produced the scripts for LISA and THIS GUY SMITH. His other credits include a number of mystery novels as well as the ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, COLUMBO, LOST IN SPACE and PERRY MASON.
BERKELEY MATHER was the author of THE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN and THE SEVENTH CAPTAIN. He has also done scripts for THE AVENGERS, and most notably shared screenplay credit for the cult Bond epic DR. NO.
ELICK MOLL (1901-1988)and JOSEPH THAN were responsible for THE LOTUS EATER and AN AMERICAN EMPRESS. They also wrote together for HAWAII FIVE O ELICK MOLL is author of several novels, the screenplay for NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP and the controversial film STORM CENTER. Joseph Than was screen writer of a number of German films.
DAVID KARP (1922-1999) produced the script for CARRY ME BACK TO OLD T'SIEN CHA. He wrote the bestseller, ONE, and screenplays for SOL MADRID, BROTHERHOOD OF THE BELL, CERVANTES and HAWKINS ON MURDER among others. His TV credits included THE UNTOUCHABLES.
 Garry Marshall
 GARRY MARSHALL (born 1934)& JERRY BELSON created the delightful NO EXCHANGE ON DAMAGED MERCHANDISE. both - together and apart - they have had careers as producers, directors and writers, and acted as well. To note but a few credits: Together they wrote HOW SWEET IT IS and for DICK VAN DYKE. Marshall directed PRETTY WOMAN, produced HAPPY DAYS and THE ODD COUPLE and played the boss in MURPHY BROWN. Belson produced the TRACEY ULMAN SHOW, directed the MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, and acted in MURDER ROMANCE.
 Harvey Bullock
 HARVEY BULLOCK & P. S. ALLEN scripted THE BARTER. They also wrote for HOGAN'S HEROES. HARVEY BULLOCK has also produced numerous television shows, including LOVE AMERICAN STYLE and THE LOVE BOAT, and written for THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, HOGAN'S HEROES, CHECKMATE and THE FLINSTONES. His screenplays include WITH SIX YOU GET AN EGGROLL, WHO'S MINDING THE MINT? and HONEYMOON HOTEL.
NORMAN BORISOFF authored the only two-part episode, TO FLORENCE WITH LOVE. He has also done scripts for THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, THE SAINT and STARSKY & HUTCH, as well as the documentaries THE KREMLIN and THE TITAN: STORY OF MICHELANGELO.
 Chester Krumholz & Stephen Kandel
CHESTER KRUMHOLZ wrote LITTLE BOY LOST, He produced the Canadian series POLICE SURGEON, and has also done the teleplay for THE DREAM MERCHANTS, and scripts for MANNIX, KOJAK, FANTASY ISLAND, T. J. HOOKER and AIRWOLF.
OLIVER CRAWFORD was the author of RED SASH OF COURAGE. A science fiction writer, he has contributed numerous scripts to STAR TREK, and the story for MAN FROM THE ALAMO.
EDWARD J. LASKO wrote CHRYSANTHEMUM. His other credits include THE ROCKFORD FILES, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE,12 O'CLOCK HIGH, THE BIG VALLEY, STARSKY & HUTCH and STAR TREK.
Other writers include HOWARD GAST with MY MOTHER THE SPY and LES & TINA FINE with THE HONORABLE ASSASINS.
