I SPY REVISITED
With little dialogue, this episode made scant use of the star actors involved. The extremely long “silent” sequences, helped along a little with the interesting musical motif from Hugo Friedhofer, seemed more tedious than suspenseful this time around. The minimal script was even padded with a repetition of the details Scotty had received on the phone about Hunte, and "action" scenes were also dragged outr. Kelly and Scotty looked amateurish again and again - letting the escaped mental patient get away twice - and very easily. They seemed to have trouble figuring out situations (and of course, this was the famous episode which had to be re-shot after an inappropriate “this is another fine mess you've gotten us into” was uttered at an inappropriate moment, requiring an extra day's filming. It also seemed inconceivable that they didn't attempt to phone the Matthews, rather than go in person when their lives hung in the balance. There were, nevertheless, a couple more highlights noted: As he encounters Kelly telling stories to a group of children, Scotty asks, “what are you doing, running for president?” ….. Kelly playing with his gun ……
