A beautiful photographer mesmerizes Kelly, but she is implicated in the disappearance of three agents murdered before reaching Vietnam.
Cast:
Laura Devon (Tatia), Richard Garland (John Irving), John Rayner (Roderick)
Synopsis: Kelly falls for one of Theirs.
Highlights/Comments: The soft refrain of “God Bless the Child” which follows Tatia through the film, sentimental yet with a foreboding note ... A letter from Scotty's mother, but for Kelly. When Scotty advises him about Tatia he says “You get a letter from Mom and start sounding like her.” … Kelly's delight returning from Tatia, and Scotty's admonition “The longer you go on, the worse it will be when you hear this." ... Kelly ventures to Tatia “I've never had anything lasting.” “I haven't eithr” she replies provocatively. Kelly's uncomfortable response … The scene preceding Kelly's visit to Tatia's room, so evocative of them and their friendship - from playfulness through intensity to bare to the bone emotion … The delicately drawn relationship between Tatia and Kelly.
I SPY REVISITED
After having contact with other admirers of the series, I've noted that, like being mine, this seems to be everyone's second favorite of the I Spy offerings. It has everything - romance, tension between Kelly and Scotty (their elaborate fight scene) as well as humor with just three actors carrying the whole hour. Earle Hagen's beautiful “Tatia” song and the rest of his lyric score sets all the elements perfectly in place.
Richard Garland as John Irving
John Rayner as Roderick, the conspirator
