In the restauraant Tatia tells Kelly that she's only obnoxious when she's taking photographs. “I can't let myself be a woman, or I'd lose control of my subject.”
|
When asked, she says her interests are her job, men, and the human condition. She sings a line from “God bless the child.”

Kelly asks her whether he fits into the things important to her. “Do you want to?” Tatia asks. He answers, “ordinarily, no. It would just be another game we'd play out to an inevitable conclusion. But Tatia …. Tatia ….. It's a very special name. I would like to fit ….. with you …. Very much.”

In the next scene, Kelly waltzes into the hotel suite, saying merrily, “good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the opening-night performance of Seventh Heaven!” He dances across the room mirthfully while Scotty listens dolefully. “Sit down, I want to talk to you,” he says grimly.

“No chance, man, I'm going to do 20 minutes on the wonderfulness of a fantastic woman who will dance her way into your minds and hearts,” replies Kelly giddily. “The longer you carry on, the worse it's going to be,” Scotty tells him in a solemn tone. “Yes,” says Kelly throwing himself down, and kicking up his legs, “at the opening of our scene, we find half-wit Robinson under a spell, having been reduced to about age 12.”
|
Scotty is finally able to break into his mood when he pronounces that Johnny Irving is dead, strangled in their suite. Scotty explains that he moved the body secretly back to Johnny's room. Then he gets Kelly to look at the photos of the three agents, each credited to Tatia. “You're out of your mind,” says Kelly at the implication of her involvement.

In a quiet but outraged tone, Scotty says, “you flip over some chick that you didn't even know the day before yesterday, and when I tell you she's involved in the death of three men, you tell me I'm out of my mind. OK, you'd better straighten up, Jack.”
|
Kelly scoffs at the idea, and Scotty suggests Tatia might have been involved in John Irving's murder as well. “Just start thinking about that,” insists Scotty tersely, “think about Tatia, straight from the shoulder Tatia. Girl agent. For them!” Kelly turns vehemently, “no, no good!”

Scotty replies softly, “boy, the United States is really in trouble,” and Kelly retorts, “smack you right in the mouth!” Scotty says, “go right ahead, Charlie, it might clear your mind.” The exchange seems to have had the effect of a physical encounter, and Kelly becomes more subdued.
|
“Come over here, and listen to me for a few minutes,” Scotty says seriously, and begins to question Kelly about Tatia, making notes on a pad. He tells him to treat Tatia as if she were his own worst enemy, that she might be trying to kill him. Kelly strides away, unconvinced, and Scotty says sadly, “maybe that's what they want. They want to separate us.” He stresses again that Tatia might be on a kill mission, and Kelly says he'll make it easy for her.
